Another adaptation of a work by J B Priestley, said to be at least partially autobiographical.

It's 1913 and Richard Herncastle decides to join his Uncle's musical hall (for American readers "vaudeville") act as a stage illusionist. He is seduced by another member of the company, a much older woman whose glory days on the West End stage and finally joins up at the start of World War 1 to fight for King and country. A darker piece than "The Good Companions", but makes for engrossing listening, not least for Tom Baker as his Uncle.
