Life of Pi 2012 1080p x265 10bit 7.1 DTS HD.mkv

Please note that I haven’t encoded anything for this upload mostly because my laptop is of modest specs. What I did do is download Joybell’s 10 bit HEVC encode of this movie (not the 4k one – the 1080p) – many thanks to her for the encoding and uploading. Then, I remuxed it - replaced the audio tracks with uncompressed English DTS audio from a blu-ray disc. The sound seems perfectly synced (magically?) and is superb over a good receiver – say what you want about all the lossy and lossless audio encodes, to my ears at least – DTS beats the others hands down and ... (importantly to me) it is very easy to pass unprocessed to a receiver. I also removed most of the subtitles (Eng, Fr, Sp remain) but left the chapters as is.

Naturally, this file is bigger than Joybell’s but if you have a receiver or ... plan to get one (I’d strongly recommend – it will change the experience from watching a movie to being immersed in it) ... you’ll likely appreciate the extra sound quality. If you don’t have one ... you’d be better off downloading Joybell’s upload – I doubt you’d notice any difference in sound quality using laptop speakers or headphones.

Sorry to say my internet service is very poor. The 1st couple of downloads will be very slow (you’ll probably have to leave it downloading all night) but hopefully with some seeding, the speed will pick up.

As an aside kinda comment – for months now, my dual-core laptop (processor running at 80%) has been struggling a bit with playing HEVC files (sometimes I’d randomly get jerky motion, audio unsynced from video etc. etc.). Recently, I upgraded the CPU ($12 from ebay) to quad-core and the difference is totally amazing – it now plays HEVC files (processor running at 40 – 50%) the way the dual-core played x264 files (which is to say perfectly). It’s still totally useless for HEVC encoding though (40 hours for 1st pass on a 2 hour movie with processor running at 100% lol – it kinda/sorta makes you appreciate the folks encoding/uploading these files). So … if your dual-core pc is working a bit hard to play HEVC, I’d recommend upgrading to quad-core.
