The movie is set in Medieval France. Philip Gaston (Matthew Broderick", called the Mouse, is a little thief who escapes from the prison of Aquila. He's chased by the Bishop's soldiers and only the intervention of an outlawed night, Etienne Navarre (Rutger Hauer), can save him. Etienne is chased by the Bishop's guards as well, and is also doomed by an evil curse: he dared to fall in love with the woman loved by the Bishop, the beautiful Isabeau (Michelle Pfieffer), and the Bishop, mad with anger, struck a dreadful bargain with the Evil One. The dark powers of hell spat up a terrible curse: by day, Isabeau is a beautiful hawk. And by night, the voice of the wolf that we hear is the cry of Navarre.
