Nikita, a street urchin, witnesses the brutal murder of a police officer. The killer goes after her too, but she is able to wrestle the knife from his hands. Moments after he runs away, the police arrive and arrest Nikita. She is sentenced to life in prison, without possiblity of parole. One night, she is taken from her cell to Section One. There, she meets Michael, her mentor. She trains for a year before becoming an operative. Her first mission is a difficult one. She must think on her feet and create her own way out of a difficult situation. Upon completion of the mission, she is taken to her apartment, where she meets her neighbor and friend Carla. Nikita's second mission is ever more difficult for her. Michael tells her to kill someone and she cannot pull the trigger, causing the mission to go awry. Section One quickly organizes a third op to catch the terrorist. Nikita and her partner follow him down into a sewer and are held hostage. Michael saves them by shooting the terrorist, but comes under fire himself.
