Description Klami was by most accounts the second Finnish composer to gain international recognition. He studied in Helsinki, Paris, and Vienna--of which Paris made the greatest impact. The influence of Ravel is most notable in his music, though Finnish inflections and more astringent harmonies make themselves felt in his works as time goes on. His Kalevala Suite is a five movement work illustrating events in the great Finnish myth cycle, The Kalevala. Two bios are enclosed.
