When I first listened to this, I wasn't quite sure what to make of it,
Mr. Bulbous is heavier and slightly darker than past releases yet still
retaining the classic King's X sound.

This album does stand alone somewhat in terms of the overall sound and
feel in comparison to the band's output both before and after.

Don't let that put you off, though, as this release really does fall
into the slow burn/'grower' category.

The production is probably closest to Dogman, very direct and bright
with pounding down-tuned bass from Mr Pinnick.
Jerry's drums sound nice and crisp and, as ever, Ty's guitar tone is
exemplary.

During the heavier sections, Ty's guitar sounds particularly nasty and
he pulls off some very nice solos.

The overall feel here is one of slow groove, sometimes very heavy and at
other times surprisingly laid back.

It takes a good few listens to click but once there, I'm sure you'll
enjoy this album just about as much as any other from the band's now
sizeable back catalogue.

The song highlights for me are Julia (very original harmonically),
She's Gone Away(complete with singalong chorus), When You're Scared
(excellent 2 part guitar solo from Ty), Charlie Sheen(a Ty led song with
nice clean guitar work), BitterSweet (another Ty led slow number) and the
closing song Move Me.

Every time I come back to this album, I'm surprised at just how good it is.
It hasn't dated one bit since its release.

If you're an existing KX fan, there's no excuse for not owning this.
Similarly, anyone who takes their rock/metal seriously should take the
plunge.
