JOHNNY WARREN'S FOOTBALL MISSION (SBS) (aired 15/06/06)
Show Info Johnny Warren's Football Mission tells the story of one of Australia's true sporting heroes. After an entire lifetime dedicated to what he called his "mission", Johnny Warren became Australia's greatest football ambassador. His mission was simple, to promote the world game Down Under, but by associating himself alongside migrants of all nationalities, he was a true visionary in understanding how football could help bridge the cultural divides that characterised post-war Australia. He was one of the few who recognised football as a universal language that could pull the country firmly into the global community. This program features never-before-seen footage of classic Socceroo matches, including their first ever attempt to qualify for the 1966 World Cup, the stunning goal that clinched a place at the 1974 World Cup and the heartbreak of defeat at the final hurdle against Iran in 1997, where Johnny famously wept live on national television. There are also key interviews with Johnny Warren's old team mates, family, friends and football journalists, who provide intimate insights into his life. (reseeding) Related Torrents
