John Taverner - Missa Gloria tibi Trinitas - H Christophers, The Sixteen (1984) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 179.39 MB)
Description
John Taverner has been called "the last of the Great English medieval composers." He was one of the best remunerated, during tumultuous times that saw Henry VIII form the Church of England, followed by the downfall of Taverner's patron, Cardinal Wolsey. The composer soon thereafter retired to a reasonably wealthy estate. His Missa Gloria tibi Trinitas is the best known of his three very large scale festal masses, both beautiful to listen to, and brilliantly constructed. It also gave rise to something of a fad that lasted over a century: the section at the words "In nomine" in the Benedictus, with the plainchant in the alto, became a favorite for variational technique by composers of viol consorts. Transfers are made at 256 kBits/s, directly from the disc. Bio enclosed.
