Although at first glance this luxuriously appointed box set appears to retread old ground, John Hillarby, the compiler, has really pulled out the stops and unearthed some real gems here. Discs 3 and 4 are all unreleased live versions but the real nuggets are the unreleased studio songs dotted about on discs 1 and 2. How John Martyn or his record label could have left the sublime "In The Evening" off Solid Air is a mystery beyond mortal comprehension. I would go so far as to say that this box would be worth it just for that one song. Hear it and weep.
