After World War II, soldier John Lawrence can finally return home and marry his waiting girlfriend, Mary McKinley. But Lawrence is already married. As a favour to his friend, Fred Taylor, who saved his life during the war, Lawrence wed Taylor's English fling, Lilly Herbish, to circumvent immigration laws and to ultimately reunite the two. But there is another problem. Having been home for two years, Taylor is also already married.
