John Lee Hooker-Urban Blues(1991 BGO Rem.)(1967)[EAC-FLAC] (Size: 156.98 MB)
Description
Recorded in Chicago, Illinois on September 26 and November 27, 1967 and in Los Angeles, California on May 29, 1969. Originally released on Bluesway (BLS-6012).
Digitally remastered by Robert Stoughton (MCA Studios, North Hollywood, California). Backed by spare, tight combo and accompanied by his primitive, gutbucket electric guitar, Hooker lays down the real thing on this 12-track collection from the late '60s. Due to the folk and blues revival of the period, the old-school Detroit bluesman was experiencing a surge in popularity. But his approach and aesthetic have remained essentially unchanged since the '40s. The main ingredients here are Hooker's hard-edged, boogie playing and his pained, soulful voice. On such tracks as the crawling "I Can't Stand To Leave You" and his signature "Boom Boom," he blends the emotional intensity of folk blues and the sleazy punch of rock & roll to achieve electric roots music of the highest order. URBAN BLUES is an excellent representation of this blues legend's consistently strong work.
