Description John Blow is considered by many critics the next to last major keyboard talent in England before the 20th century, and its last great opera composer until that time, as well. He was a distinguished composer, organist and teacher, who taught Henry Purcell, and had to take over the positions he'd abandoned to his pupil after Purcell's early death. The keyboard works on this album are in the vein of miniatures, rather than the lengthy variation sets and In Nomines that were considered the profound side of keyboard music in the earlier Elizabethan age.
