Description
Joe Harriott Blue Harriott
Recorded May 5 1959 Label : Columbia (SEG 7939) Format : Mp3@320 Jamaica-born alto jazz saxist Joe Harriott was one of the UK scene’s most original, inventive and under-appreciated jazzmen of the late-‘50s and ‘60s. Although he died almost penniless in 1973 at the age of just 44, his work is now being reappraised and he’s being cited as a major influence on today’s key players. These 4 tracks recorded on 5 May 1959 were first issued in the UK as an EP. They were later included in a US Jazzland LP 'Southern Horizons,' which was never issued in the UK, together with other tracks recorded a year later. Joe's next recordings, in November 1960, were to be his ground breaking music with his 'Free Form' groups.
