It's About Time

If "Lost In Space" and "Gilligan's Island" had a baby . . .

It might look something like "It's About Time." This is a single-season offering from 1966/67, largely forgotten. The premise is told in the theme song:

It's about time
It's about space
About two men in the strangest place
It's about time
It's about flight
Traveling faster than the speed of light
Here is their tale
From the brave crew
As through the barrier of time they flew . . .

. . . and land in about 1 million B.C., the 1 million B.C. of fiction, where cavemen and dinosaurs live precariously side by side. The first 2/3 of the series involve the two astronauts ("Mac" and "Hec" to their cave-buddies) trying to repair their space capsule and make it back to the 20th century. Some natural disaster, caveman meddlig, or Hec's own bumbling manage to defeat their weekly attempts. If this sounds similar to "Gilligan's Island," there's a good reason for that: it was produced by substantially the same crew, even down to the theme song, which is noticeably performed by the same group. Hec is Gilligan in a space suit.

However . . . as silly as this series is, it never quite reaches the depths of "Gilligan's Island" silliness. Gronk and Shad are very entertaining, and have a terrific screen chemistry. Mlor beats BOTH Ginger and Maryann. Boss and Klon really are fun to watch as they scheme to get rid of the two interlopers, but are easily bamboozled.
