A childless Iranian couple on a pilgrimage to pray for the wife's pregnancy stop at a desert village after their car breaks down. After the town's mechanic/schoolteacher leaves with the husband for spare parts, the wife takes over his lessons, grieves for pregnancies she's lost, and contemplates her role in modern Iran as a woman.
