Watching big, dead animals being cut up - it doesn't sound like great entertainment. But the eye-opening details emerging from this anatomical free-for-all make it brilliant TV. It's not just the bio-trivia; it's the sense you get of the animal's heft and squidginess, and the surprises about its body parts. Who would have thought that the fearsome teeth around a great white shark's mouth were not fixed in place but loose and wobbly to the touch? And when we see the shark's liver, it is vast, with three lobes, each like a chunky surfboard made of liver. The shark uses it for buoyancy, apparently. Presenter Mark Evans and a group of experts gather on a South African dockside to slice their way through the creature's corpse from its dark unblinking eye to its massive tail. Look out for the scene where they take the eye apart - not easy to watch but memorable.
Cheers
