With new band members Jimi Bell (g), Jeff Kent (b) and B.J. Zampa (d) aboard and lets not forget some help of Gregg Giuffria, the excellent World Upside Down (Frontiers, 2006) was written, recorded and released, much to the excitement of fans and press people alike. No wonder the album easily reached the # 1 spot in our infamous yearly poll. When the time was ripe to write and record a follow-up for World Upside Down, it was pretty obvious that the new album just had to pick up that golden thread. To cut a long story short, thats exactly what Christian, Bell, Zampa and new bassist Chris McCarvill have accomplished. The latter replaces Jeff Kent, who cant go on tour due to his illness, but he may easily be considered as the fifth band member, because of his excellent contributions to the songwriting process. Come To My Kingdom takes off with a tasteful, bombastic intro, immediately followed by the rocking title track, that paves the way for a string of strong tunes. Dont expect pessimistical material from these guys, but good-humoured songs about all things that make our lives so colourful. All that made the last album so good, is here again: flowing melodies, blazing riffs (thumbs up for Jeff Kent), enchanting backing vocals you name it, Christian and co deliver it with a great deal of verve. Three to four (semi)-ballads make a welcome change and all of them are gems in their own right, The Dream being only one of many highlights. Other instant classics include I Dont Wanna Wait All Night, Another Day From Heaven (two versions on the European release!), I Believe and One Touch. Its great to see that James Christians voice hasnt lost any of its original power plus his keyboard work is also brilliant, although its not prominent. Recorded at Christians home studio in Florida (with some help of Tommy Denander and Chris Pelcer) and mixed by Dennis Ward (no introduction needed) this album is all we had been expecting from HOL and more. A serious contender for album of the year, as far as Im concerned! Enjoy and please seed after you have finished download as long as you can. Sharing Widget |
