Description

The Honestech VHS to DVD 7.0 capture and editing software is designed with ease of use in mind, enabling people with minimal computer skills to successfully transfer their tapes to DVD. Honestech includes a composite RCA cable with the converter box and software. This is nice, as you won't have to worry about finding additional AV cables around the house or buying one from your local electronics store. This software is compatible with Windows 8, 7, Vista and XP.

Unfortunately, you may run into problems installing the drivers for this device. The drivers included on the installation CD are outdated, requiring you to download and install the newest ones manually. Many users encounter difficulties installing the device and getting the software to recognize the capture device. Although it is not as intuitive to set up, once you get the drivers and settings adjusted correctly, you'll get great results.

Honestech VHS to DVD 7.0 offers two different video to DVD transfer modes: Easy Wizard Mode and Advanced Mode. Once you feel comfortable with Easy Wizard Mode, we recommend using the Advanced Mode as your main video capture tool, as this mode allows you to edit video as well as add effects, transitions and customized menus. Using Easy Mode, you can transfer your video directly onto a DVD in one fell swoop, but you cannot add a menu or any additional features such as transitions. When you use Easy Mode, you can’t record clips; once you click the record button, there is no stopping until the end. If you do stop the recording process before you reach the end of your tape, you can’t start again.

In advanced mode, you can capture video, edit the clips, add transitions, burn the finished product to a DVD or Blu-ray Disc and upload to YouTube. We felt more confident capturing video in advanced mode because we knew we could clean up the clips later.
