Leaving a hole in the heart of his wife and daughter, and the pop-rock world family at large.

The long dark shadows of the pop culture vultures stretch through time and space to hover over the Rockstore company this night.

Just one more something in the way of Courtney rising to the occasion and yet still higher than that. She has her tales to tell and in tune to sing, scream and yell above the heavenly helter-skelter overdrive of her burning-black band.

The rarified air of the choice rarities played -- Cinnamon Girl / Starbelly, Take Away Jam, Improv (instrumental) -- alone make it more than worth filling up on only to find thrills on through.

1965 – Bob Dylan performs his first non-acoustic set at the Newport Folk Festival to a hostile crowd.

Twas on this epochal day that Bob Dylan goes electric at the Newport Folk Festival. He’s accused of becoming a “sellout.” Dylan later whines, “I’d like to see one of these so-called fans. I’d like to have him blindfolded and brought to me. It’s like going out to the desert and screaming and then having little kids throw their sandbox at you. I’m only 24. These people that said this – were they Americans?”

1967 – In today’s London Times appears a petition calling for the legalization of marijuana. It’s signed by the Beatles and their manager, Brian Epstein.

1969 – Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young give their first live performance at the Fillmore East in New York.

1972 – Punk poetess Patti Smith goes to see the Rolling Stones and Stevie Wonder at Madison Square Garden and remembers it as: “My brain cracked like an egg. The gold liquid spurted all over the stage. Mick bathed in it. Keith got his feet wet.” Mm-hmm.

1995 - It was 20 years ago today, Courtney Love taught the world to play: 1995-07-25, Great Woods, MA, Lolla Hole-ah!

Lollapalooza 1995: Sonic Youth, Hole, Cypress Hill, Pavement, [strike]Sinead O'Connor[/strike] Elastica, Beck, the Jesus Lizard and hometown boys the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

All in all and all in one of the best days of my life. As one of the only people dancing in the heat of the middle of the afternoon half-way up in the stands, to and from Elastica. Too much mushroom blooming through my head to sit still. So when the band called out for the people to get up off their asses, Justine just had to salute and cheer me on from her rock-it stage. And so then a girl from another row that I did not know got up from sitting with her boyfriend to dance with me. When it was all over, he still got the girl, but I still had Justine in my ear. "The vital connection is made..." Forever in my life is but a rockunroll dream.

Later Courtney Love only gave the most moving, brilliant performance by an artist I've ever seen felt known my mind forever blown.
