Now, as a rule, the Nazis shouldn't be funny. But as one of the many thousands who have seen Peter Kay in The Producers during its Manchester run, there are times when taking the mickey out them works. And works very well.



In fact, comedy was quite a handy weapon for the Allies when they were trying to keep morale high during the dark days of World War Two.



Since then, everyone from Monty Python to Spike Milligan to Freddie Starr has had a pop at the Third Reich with tongue firmly in cheek.



That fact hasn't escaped Channel 4, hence tonight's offering at 11.05pm. On one hand, it would be easy to dismiss it as another talking-head-between-the-clips show, but it is at least purporting to ask a question.



That question is: Is there a place for such humour on the comedy circuit? I think the answer is yes, as long as it doesn't cross the line and offend those who suffered under the Nazis.
