Description
Herbie Mann - Opalescence
Year: 1989 Label: Gaia Total time: 47:59 Bitrate: 320 kbps This release by flutist Herbie Mann for his Kokopelli label is a disappointment. With a few exceptions (a remake of "Comin' Home Baby" and the bossa nova "Sir Charles Duke"), most of the Brazilian-based originals are rather forgettable and the interpretations by Mann and his five-piece rhythm section often border on easy-listening music. ~ Scott Yanow, AMG I do disagree with Scott Yanow's review, though. Sometimes carefree uplifting jazz has many fine moments to it. Mann achieves this here. The mix appears to be well crafted, too. ~ Liderr Personnel: Herbie Mann (Flute) Paul Socolow (Double Bass) Mark Soskin (Keyboards) Cyro Baptista (Percussion) Ricky Sebastian (Drums) Ricardo Silveira (Guitar) - 1,3,5,8 Romero Lubambo (Guitar) - 4,7 Robben Ford (Guitar) - 2 Herbie Mann - Opalescence Tracks: 01 Dona Palmeira (Ivan Lins/Vitor Martins) 5:56 02 Comin' Home Baby (Ben Tucker/Rudy Stevenson) 6:17 03 Song for Lea (Mark Soskin) 3:39 04 Bahia De Todas as Contas (Gilberto Gil/Tracy Mann) 6:16 05 Dry Land (Marcos Silva) 4:46 06 Two Rivers (Do Oiapoque Ao Chui) (Ivan Lins) 5:39 07 Sir Charles Duke (Herbie Mann) 4:40 08 Number Fifty-Five (Ricardo Silveira) 6:57 09 Calling You (Bob Telson) 3:45 Sharing Widget |
