This is the very first one-hour program delivered to the public airwaves by Hearts of Space Radio Show on January 1, 1983. The program was re-mastered and aired on the 25th Anniversary of the show, which is this collection. Split to MP3s at 320 kBp/s.

1983...the year before the infamous 1984. It seems lifetimes ago, but that was the year that a syndicated music program called HEARTS of SPACE began to appear on public radio stations around the U.S. And that means that 2008 is the 25th anniversary of the national program. To celebrate our 25th year, we've selected 25 programs that give an overview of the series and the sound we call ambient, space and contemplative music. We're going to call the series "25 YEARS IN SPACE."

Beginnings take on more significance over time, so we'll begin the series with Program Number One, "FIRST FLIGHT." On our premiere program, we featured music by a group of artists who became familiar names in the HEARTS of SPACE pantheon of composers. It's a journey across 25 years of time...and space.

[As an aside to the introduction, at least 2 of the songs included here are extremely difficult to find, if not completely unavailable. Prisms, from "Lemurian Sunrise" by Paul Warner and Steven Kindler, was published in audio cassette format only. Archive photos of the cassette cover and tracklist are available, but not the album! "Pathless Path" by Charles Lloyd on the album of the same name is not available in any format, at this time. At least an album cover was available, and is included in the Covers here.]

This program collection takes the place of the regular weekend program offering for August 26, 2012. Hearts of Space Radio Show chose to air a "rerun" - "Requerdos" #950 broadcast on June 24, 2011. That program album is available in our library now, if you prefer to download it.
