While opinions vary greatly on this film, I felt the need to make this available because it tells a classic story (Joseph Conrad's 'Heart of Darkness'), features two brilliant actors in Tim Roth and John Malkovich, and is currently unreleased on DVD. It upsets me when a movie is lost in the shuffle when we jump from one format to another (VHS to DVD to Blu-Ray, etc.). Someone took the time to make this movie, and you should have the opportunity to judge it for yourself.

"Heart of Darkness" is the novella that "Apocalypse Now" was based on, albeit quite loosely. This version, set in turn-of-the-century Africa, is far closer to Conrad's original novella. If viewed as an independent piece of work, on its own, I feel that some people may find something of interest here. Likewise, "Apocalypse" die-hards may be interested to learn more about Francis Ford Coppola's source material.

I have transferred this directly from the Turner Home Entertainment laserdisc edition, boosting the brightness and saturation just a touch. Since this was originally made for television, it was not filmed in widescreen. The aspect ratio is true to the original at 4:3. This is about as good a copy as you're going to get until somebody does a proper DVD or Blu-Ray release. ENJOY!
