Faith 102: Are They Secular Founders? Today's revisionists and secular progressives regularly point to America's two least religious Founding Fathers (Thomas Jefferson and Benjamin Franklin) as proof that the rest of the 200+ Founders were atheists, agnostics, or deists. Yet those critics rarely cite specific actions of Jefferson or Franklin to prove their point, they just vaguely invoke the two individuals as sufficient proof. Ironically, the specific actions of both Jefferson and Franklin regarding public religious expressions horrify the secular left.
