DescriptionTHE NEW SCIENCE [Scienza Nuova] is the major work of Italian philosopher GIAMBATTISTA VICO (1668-1744). The book was poorly received during his own life but has since been highly influential, especially in the philosophy of history, inspiring a host of famous thinkers and artists including Karl Marx and Isaiah Berlin, and providing the structure for James Joyce's novel, Finnegans Wake (1939). The first edition appeared in 1725. Vico himself worked on two revisited editions, that were published under new titles, the first in 1730 and the second posthumously in 1744. Translations of both the 1725 and 1744 editions are included in this collection. The three following translations are in PDF or EPUB formats as specified: * THE FIRST NEW SCIENCE [1725] (Cambridge University Press, 2002). Edited and translated by Leon Pompa. -- PDF * THE NEW SCIENCE: Principles of the New Science Concerning the Common Nature of Nations, Third Edition [1744] corrected, revised and expanded by the Author (Penguin Classics, 2013).
