Cahit Tomruk (Birol Ünel) is a German Turk in his 40's. He has given up on his life after his beloved wife's death, and is living a miserable life drowning in cocaine, alcohol and cigarettes. One night, he semi-intentionally crashes his car into a wall, and barely survives. At the hospital he meets a girl, Sibel (Sibel Kekilli), another German Turk who's also tried to commit suicide. She's sick and tired of her traditional Turkish family, and asks Cahit if he will marry her, so that she can become a married woman and get rid of her family. At first Cahit doesn't really take to the idea, but eventually he agrees. As Sibel tells him straightaway that she's interested in absolute freedom involving other men and he agrees, they live as roommates separate private lives for a while.
