Description:

The nineteenth century , New York's Five Points district , one of the poorest places across America where gangs fought for control of the streets . In these times of lawlessness and unrestrained political corruption takes place in film history Amsterdam Vallon (Leonardo DiCaprio ) , a young Irish immigrant. After 15 years spent in prison , the hero returns to the Five Points , to take revenge on William Cuttingu ( Daniel Day Lewis ) , also known as Bill the Butcher , the leaders of the anti - immigrant gang , which is responsible for the death of his father Amsterdam. The boy knows that the first step to make the vendetta is probing the closest circle of Bill. In the meantime, Amsterdam meets Jenny Everdeane ( Cameron Diaz ) , an enigmatic woman - pickpocket , whose great sense of independence and fascinating beauty captivate him completely . Jenny , however, has his own dark past which unexpectedly complicates the plans of hero. Travel through the dark alleys of Amsterdam Five Points turns into a fight not only for their own survival but also for the welfare of people like him . His struggles coincide with the biggest riots in American history riots that erupted in New York when in 1863 the city with summer echoes of the Civil War .
