Description

Victor Wolansky's intermediate PFTrack course has been a continual favorite at fxphd and he'll be building upon it with an advanced 3D tracking course. In this term we will take 3D tracking beyond the basics. We will see not only camera tracking, but also motion capture, plus even more "impossible to solve" tracks. This will be combined with a lot of practice and advance techniques.

We will do object tracking, putting a 3D car over an existing car shot and track it. The course will also cover tracking a face and then using the point cloud to help modeling the replacement face. The insanely complex Sarah Jane "bike shot" will be solved -- this is a shot that drove several fxphd professors crazy for almost a whole week. The VPN will use PFTrack 4.1 and how how to use objects to track shots that cannot be tracked with conventional methods, as well as how to use the new i/tech files from Cooke Lens with PFTrack.

Professor: Victor Wolansky (victorw)

Class 1: Doing a poor man's motion capture with multiple cameras referenced together to create a point cloud of the performance, and a look at what's to come throughout the course, including the "most difficult" shot Professor Victor Wolansky has ever done!

Class 2: Five ways to do the same thing: Variations on tracking the silver car shot

Class 4: Part 1 of 2: Tracking the "I Love Sarah Jane" opening bike shot

Class 5: Part 2 of 2: Tracking the "I Love Sarah Jane" opening bike shot

Class 6: Tracking a moving camera steadicam shot with variable focal length and motion blur, and working with DPX files

Class 7: Dealing with a situation where a perfect solution isn't necessarily possible. A shot is tracked with that in mind, containing motion blur, defocus, zoom, and moving objects

Class 8: Another difficult shot is solved. 900 frames with film grain, noise, motion blur, rapid camera movement, and zooming, all without the benefit of any information from the shoot about lenses or measurements. A demonstration of i/tech files from Cooke Lens and how even professional lenses bend the frame when zooming, and how that can complicate tracking when the meta data is unknown

Class 9: Solving a shot with extreme lens distortion by un-distorting outside of PFtrack, and coming back

Class 10: A look at making use of the tracking data further down the pipeline, applying some of the tracking created so far to create a final shot
