FrostWire for Mac is a free open source BitTorrent client with a long history of changes of its functionality and streamlining of its interface. Between 2004 when it was initially released and today, FrostWire managed to attract sizeable audience of users who were attracted to the activity of peer-to-peer file sharing. Initially, FrostWire was created as the fork of the popular Gnutella protocol sharing client LimeWire. After that app ended up with serious legal problems with media content owners, open source community switched their efforts to the FrostWire, and imbued it with all the latest and most optimized tools for effortless file sharing. During its life, FrostWire went through changes that moved its focus from Gnutella-based sharing to the full support of BitTorrent transfer protocol. As of version 5, FrostWire is only using BitTorrent for sharing, enabling users streamlined way to send large files and folders between themselves.
