Fandango, Scarlatti in Iberia - S Yates, hpschd (1998) [Philidor; FLAC] (Size: 417.6 MB)
Description
While the French lute inspired much of that nation's 17th and 18th century harpsichord repertoire, it was the Spanish guitar that influenced the harpsichord in Spain and Portugal. The music is strongly folk influenced, often highly dissonant, joyous or darkly melancholy after a fashion that recalls the paintings of Goya. Sophie Yates is an excellent performer and programmer, whose selection of material creates a fine introduction to the Andalusian harpsichord.
