Given how early Mr. L'Amour began writing, you have to wonder, when reading this one in particular, whether it was the inspiration for the TV show "Maverick". Consider the first and last sentences: "Macon Fallon was a stranger to the town of Seven Pines, and fortunately for him he was a stranger with a fast horse." and "Macon Fallon was no stranger to the town of Red Horse, and the fact that he was a man with a fast horse wasn't going to do him a damned bit of good."
