I've been playing this game for about 10 hours and it really isn't that bad. Maybe it's 'cuz I love the XCOM series that I find this game enjoyable but think... there aren't many games out there that have similar gameplay to this one (or XCOM ones).
Most of all, it's a good torrent and it's free. So there is no reason to avoid it.
