The game isn't as captivating because of running there doing that boring tasks. There's little mystery in the game and you mostly have no freedom of playing, following a linear line of action dictated by the game. There's little background to magic, weaponry and fighting, as these disciplines simply seem to have been drafted out of blue air. Experience it yourselves. Gothic fans wouldn't really appreciate the randomness of the game...
