Endurance - Alfred Lansing

(1874-1922) had a dream to be the first man to cross the last uncharted continent, the Antarctic. His ship, the Endurance, set sail from England in August 1914. In January 1915, after battling its way for six weeks through thousands of miles of pack ice and then located only a day's sail from its destination, the Endurance became locked inside an island of ice. The subsequent heroic efforts to survive are awe-inspiring.

Alfred Lansing was a veteran journalist, who wrote for Collier's among other magazines. Endurance is his best-known work.

Tim Pigott-Smith, a distinguished stage and screen actor, has read numerous audiobooks including A Passage to India and Lord of the Flies. His film work includes roles in Remains of the Day and The Jewel in the Crown. Most recently, he appeared on Broadway in O'Neill's The Iceman Cometh.
