Description

Peter David:

Hidden Earth Chronicles:
The Damned World is home to twelve races, each of which has fought the others for survival for generations. What none of them knows is that they are all creatures of Earth, a world of legend. On Earth eleven of the twelve races were creatures of human myth or folklore. All live in awe of the all-powerful Overseer, whose authority none dare challenge. A new spirit has arisen among those sick of war and tired of living in fear. Some believe that it is possible for the races to become allies instead of adversaries. With this new spirit has come a time of possibility, of change.

Spider-Man 3:
How long can any man fight the darkness before he finds it in himself?Peter Parker has finally managed to strike a balance between his devotion to M.J. and his duties as a Super Hero(TM). But there is a storm brewing on the horizon. When his suit suddenly changes, turning jet-black and enhancing his powers, it transforms Peter as well, bringing out the dark, vengeful side of his personality that he is struggling to control. Under the influence of the suit, Peter becomes overconfident and starts to neglect the people who care about him most. Forced to choose between the seductive power of the new suit and the compassionate hero he used to be, Peter must overcome his personal demons as two of the most feared villains yet -- Sandman and Venom -- gather unparalleled power and a thirst for retribution to threaten Peter and everyone he loves.

Heights of the Depths:
The Earth of the future is not one you'd recognize. Creatures that had previously been thought simply myth - vampires, two-legged dragons, trolls, and nine other races - have overrun the planet and made it their own. Humanity is nearly extinct. But now the Twelve Races have discovered that their own fortunes are inextricably linked with the remnants of the human race.
As a result, a young slave girl named Jepp, who holds the key to the future of the world, is on her way to a fateful meeting with the most powerful creature on the face of the planet. Except the question isn't what will happen when she gets there. The question is whether she's going to make it there alive...

Modern Arthur Trilogy:

Book #1 - Knight Life:
A New York mayoral election takes an unexpected turn when a new, independent candidate appears on the scene, running on a platform of common sense, humor, and knightly virtues. Assisted by his advisers, a ten-year-old boy genius named Merlin, an immortal accountant known as Percival, and a troubled young woman called Gwen, the newcomer, who calls himself Arthur Penn, proceeds to take the town by storm until the arrival of a pair of old enemies threatens to re-create the tragedy of the Arthurian legend. This revised and expanded version of David's first novel (Sir Apropos of Nothing), originally published in 1987 and now out of print, is filled with genuine wit, irony, and keen observations of human nature. It belongs in most libraries where Arthurian fiction is popular.

Book #2 - One Knight Only:
Arthur Pendragon, aka Arthur Penn, continues his illustrious modern political career, moving from mayor of New York to president of the U.S. A man of the people and wildly popular, he takes to the presidency like a duck to water, though it is far more challenging than kingship was in days of old. For one thing, Arthur's friend and mentor Merlin has been turned into a stone statue gracing the White House gardens but leaving Arthur to bear the weight of leadership alone. He is still reasonably happy, but then an assassin's bullet puts his beloved wife, Gwen, in a hospital bed, near death. One night as Arthur keeps vigil at her bedside, an old, deadly enemy comes to him with an offer and a choice. Either way he chooses, he will lose something dear to him. David's latest is a fabulous tale of ancient gods, mythical beasts, and the Holy Grail in contemporary America. Laced with intelligent humor, it is simply enchanting.

Book #3 - Fall of Knight:
Arthur and Gwen are hiding away on their yacht when Percival and Ziusura (aka Noah) bob up on a submersible ark to tell them pics of Gwen on the boat are all over. Since she is supposedly virtually dead, that's a big deal. Time to go back to Washington, where Arthur used to be president, and fess up that Gwen is A-OK because she supped from the recently rediscovered Holy Grail (see One Knight Only, 2003). Immediately, every sick body in the world wants a sip, and Arthur agrees to marketing Grail Ale. But the course of true healing doesn't go smoothly. Arthur's bottling-entrepreneur partner is other than he seems, the Spear of Destiny (used to kill the last unicorn, as "Ye Olde Prelude" relates) has resurfaced, and Spear and Grail combined can be used to wipe the world clean--of people, as, natch, someone wants to do. The conclusion of David's trilogy of modern-day Arthurian yarns unfolds like an ideal basis for a collaborative movie by Frank Capra and -Steven Spielberg.

Sir Apropos of Nothing Trilogy

Book #1 - Sir Apropos of Nothing:
They were dark and stormy knights...and when they had their way with a helpless tavern wench one terrible evening, they had no idea that the result of that twilight brutality was going to come after them years later looking to settle the score...The "result's" unlikely name is Apropos: A rogue, a rascal, a scoundrel, a cheat...and those are his good points. Lame of leg but fast of wit, the only reason Apropos doesn't consider chivalry dead is because he's not yet through with it. Herewith, Sir Apropos of Nothing -- his story in the words of the knave himself. Apropos, all too aware of his violent and unseemly beginnings, travels to the court of the good King Runcible, with three goals in mind: to find his father, seek retribution, and line his own pockets. However, Apropos carries the most troublesome burden a would-be harbinger of chaos can bear: He may well be a hero foretold, a young man of destiny. It is not a notion that Apropos finds palatable, having very low regard for such notions as honor, selflessness, or risking one's neck. Yet when Apropos finds himself assigned as squire to the most senile knight in the court -- Sir Umbrage of the Flaming Nether Regions, whose squires tend to have a rather short life span -- Apropos is forced to rise to the occasion lest he be dragged under -- permanently. His difficulties are compounded when a routine mission to escort the King's daughter home after a long absence goes horribly awry. Suddenly Apropos finds himself saddled with trying to survive while dealing with a berserk phoenix, murderous unicorns, mutated harpies, homicidal warrior kings, and -- most problematic of all -- a princess who may or may not be a psychotic arsonist.

Book #2 - The Woad to Wuin:
"This sequel to the wildly successful Sir Apropos of Nothing starts off with a bawdy send-up of Lord of the Rings, but quickly segues into its own territory with the appearance of a mysterious Visionary at Apropos's bar, Bugger Hall. The man tells our antihero, 'You will become a shadow of your former self while escaping to the Tragic Waste on the Road to Ruin, ' (or is that 'Woad to Wuin'?), just as Sharee, Apropos's weaver companion from the first volume, bursts in and begs for his help in escaping Lord Beliquose. The very loud lord wants a powerful gem, the Eye of the Beholder, which the virtually powerless Sharee possesses and which Apropos promptly steals....The wisecracking wordplay that fans have come to expect skips smoothly off the page, lifting this satirical fantasy into a class all its own...goofy entertainment with gritty philosophical musing.

Book #3 - Tong Lashing:
It's hard to find a lesser man than Apropos: a con man, a knave, a scalawag...and those are his finer points. This time, Apropos winds up a stranger in a strange land called "Chinpan," populated by those who speak a different language and live by a code of honor, neither of which Apropos can comprehend. And yet it is here that he begins to examine his life and question whether he can aspire to become more than the hard-bitten cynic he's always been. He may yet be able to find a happy ending among a gentle people who are willing to accept him, faults and all, and he acquires a teacher who may even be able to set him on a road to true enlightenment.

Darkness of the Light:
Peter David, a creative force in television, and a best-selling author of comics and novels, has created a fantasy world sure to delight his legions of readers.

Jepp, a human woman and Karsen, a Bottom Feeder, have broken with tradition and cast their lots together. They seek the Orb of Light, with which they believe they can gain the power and release the Damned World from its chains of violence and ignorance. But they're not alone, for everyone who knows about the Orb would kill to get it. If someone gets the Orb, things will change. These are, as the proverb warns, interesting times.

Battleship:
During a routine naval drill at Pearl Harbor, American forces detect a ship of unknown origins that’s crashed in the Pacific Ocean. Lieutenant Alex Hopper, an officer aboard the USS John Paul Jones, is ordered to investigate the ominous-looking vessel—which turns out to be part of an armada of ships that are stronger and faster than any on Earth. And that’s when the Navy’s radar goes down. Ambushed by a ravenous enemy they cannot see, a small U.S. fleet makes their last stand on the open ocean, armed with little more than their instincts, to defend their lives—and the world as we know it.

Hunted - After Earth: Ghost Stories:
On a distant planet called Nova Prime, the United Ranger Corps defends the galaxy’s remaining humans from an alien race known as the Skrel and their genetically engineered predators, the Ursa. But one ordinary man may have just found the key to humanity’s last stand: a secret weapon hidden deep within his own psyche. “Ghost Stories: Hunted” is the first of six eBook short stories that lead up to the events of After Earth, the epic science fiction adventure film directed by M. Night Shyamalan and starring Jaden Smith and Will Smith.

For all his charm, looks, and skills on the holographic battlefield, Daniel Silver has been drifting through life in Nova Prime City. After proposing to his girlfriend and getting rejected in the cruelest way possible, Daniel has no choice but to accept an altogether different kind of proposition. Sigmund Ryerson, an eccentric energy magnate, has asked him to lead a civilian expedition to take down an Ursa, the flesh-eating beast that Daniel has only ever faced in simulations. The excursion could get them all killed, if a patrolling Ranger doesn’t arrest them first. But when Daniel’s death wish nearly comes true, a twist of fate leads him to make a discovery that will change his life—and life on Nova Prime.
