Early Music CDs set 1 (FIXED AND EXPANDED)
CDs ripped, CD booklets scanned and edited and converted to CBR, PDF, EPUB, and MOBI files, and torrent released by Spica-Starhome. This torrent replaces an earlier set 1 by Spica and Sirius that was less well done, adds a torrent that wasn't in the set, and adds four more CDs that weren't released before. It includes: The A-La-Mi-Re Manuscripts: Flemish Polyphonic Treasures for Charles V by Capilla Flamenca. This is a selection of 17 motets from various illuminated music manuscripts produced by Petrus Alamire, a famous musical calligrapher, between 1497 and 1535. Commentary in English, German, French, and Dutch. Original Latin, Dutch, and French text of the songs is provided, with English translations. At the Sign of the Crumhorn by Convivium Musicum Gothenburgense. Here you'll find 29 songs and dances from Tielman Susato's music books, 1551. Commentary in English, German, and French. Original Dutch text of the songs is provided, with English translations. Carmina Burana by Ensemble Unicorn and Oni Wytars. Here are 13 songs from Carmina Burana, a medieval collection. Commentary in English, German, and French. Original Latin (and sometimes German) text of the songs is provided, with English translations. Claudio Monteverdi: Madrigals Book 1 by Delitiae Musicae and Marco Longhini. NEW! Here are 26 songs from Monteverdi's "First Book of Madrigals for Five Voices", Venice, 1587. Commentary in English, German, French, and Italian; original commentary by Marco Longhini in Italian, translated into English by Susannah Howe, German by Peter Noelke, and French by David Ylla-Somers. Original Italian text of the songs is provided, with English translation by Susannah Howe. Performed by Delitiae Musicae; see page 24 of the booklet for the names of the musicians, and who played on what tracks. Codex Faenza: Instrumental Music of the Early 15th Century by Ensemble Unicorn and Michael Posch. Here are 17 songs from c. 1410-1420, performed by Ensemble Unicorn and Michael Posch. Tracks 3 and 4 are by Francesco Landini; 5-8 by Guillaume de Machaut; 9-13 by Jacopo da Bologna. The rest are anonymous. Commentary is in English, German, and French. Original lyrics, where they're known from other sources, are in Italian, French, Greek and Latin, with English translations provided. Guillaume Du Fay: Dufay and the Court of Savoy. Recorded by the Binchois Consort: Andrew Kirkman, Conductor. NEW! This is a mass for St. Maurice, from around 1450-1455. See the notes, in English, by Philip Weller, translated into German by Renate Wendel, and French by Hyperion Publishing. The original Latin lyrics of the sections of the Mass is included, with English translations, only in the English section. Possibly the publishers felt that anyone who reads German or French doesn't need the familiar words of the Latin Mass translated. Guillaume Du Fay: Mass for St. Anthony of Padua. Recorded by Pomerium. NEW! This is a mass for St. Anthony, from around 1450. See the notes, in English, by Alexander Blachly. Original Latin lyrics of the prayers is included, with English translations. A Laurel for Landini by Gothic Voices and Andrew Lawrence-King. Each of the 26 songs from the 14th century (mostly by Landini) is carefully labeled showing which of the five members of Gothic Voices performed on that track. Andrew Lawrence-King also performs on the medieval harp. Commentary in English, French, and German. Original text of the songs is provided (Italian, except for #19 which is German) with English translations. The Music of the Fourteenth Century, Vol. 3: I Am Music by The Ensemble of the Fourteenth Century. An ad hoc group expertly plays and sings 20 of Francesco Landini's songs here. The CD booklet includes information about the composer and the performers, and has the original Italian lyrics with English translation. Musica Reservata: Secret Music for Albrecht V[/green] composed by Orlando di Lasso. Performed by Profeti della Quinta and Dolce Risonanza under the direction of Florian Wieninger. Previously released as an individual torrent but not collected into a set. Duke Albrecht V of Bavaria commissioned Orlando di Lasso, the head of his court chapel in Munich, to compose musical settings of the Penitential Psalms for instruments and voice. The cover of the package for this CD features a painting by Hans Mielich entitled "Albrecht V, Duke of Bavaria, and his Court chapel". Inside, the cover of the CD brochure shows the vocal group Profeti della Quinta and the instrumental group Dolce Risonanza arranged as in the painting, except they aren't in period costumes. Commentary for the CD by Florian Wieninger and Bernard Rainer appears in English (translation by David Babcock), French (translated by Sylvie Coquillat), and the original German. The original Latin text of the psalms is included alongside English translations. The music was recorded in Austria by a German company. The CD was manufactured in the Netherlands. Praetorius: Dances from Terpsichore by Westra Aros Pijpare et al. Here are 28 dances from Michael Praetorius' book Terpsichore, mostly performed by the Swedish group Westra Aros Pijpare. The CD booklet commentary is in English, German, and French. Three of the songs have lyrics; their French, Dutch, and Italian originals are complemented with English translations. Scattered Rhymes. Recorded by The Orlando Consort and the Estonian Philharmonic Chamber Choir. NEW! This is a collection of medieval pieces and modern pieces based on medieval originals, commissioned on different occasions and performed by different groups. See the brochure for details on each work. The commentary in English by Angus Smith is translated into French by Genevieve Begou, and into German by Heidi Fritz. The lyrics are variously given in French, Latin, English, German, and occasionally Italian. For full credits, acknowledgements, pictures, discographies, etc. see the brochure. The Second Circle by Anonymous 4. Here are 18 love songs by Francesco Landini (c. 1335-1397), the king of Ars Nova Fiorentina, performed by Anonymous 4. The CD booklet commentary is in French, English, and German, with the sections in that order. The lyrics of each song are spread across two facing pages, so that, for example, the French and Italian lyrics of "Angelica bilta" occupy the bottom of page 28, while the English and German lyrics face them on the bottom of page 29. The Sport of Love: Songs of Love and the Hunt from the Renaissance and Middle Ages by Musica Antigua de Albuquerque. The 27 songs on this disk range from the 13th to the 16th century. Wildflowers by Judy Collins. I included this album by the folk singer Judy Collins because of her beautiful performance of Landini's "Lasso! di Donna" on track 5.
