Storyline:

In 1982, a massive star ship bearing a bedraggled alien population, nicknamed "The Prawns," appeared over Johannesburg, South Africa. Twenty-eight years later, the initial welcome by the human population has faded. The refugee camp where the aliens were located has deteriorated into a militarized ghetto called District 9, where they are confined and exploited in squalor. In 2010, the munitions corporation, Multi-National United, is contracted to forcibly evict the population with operative Wikus van der Merwe in charge. In this operation, Wikus is exposed to a strange alien chemical and must rely on the help of his only two new 'Prawn' friends.

Opis:

28 lat temu obcy przybywają na Ziemię. Ludzie oczekują na wrogi atak lub olbrzymi postęp technologiczny. Nic z tych rzeczy. Obcy stają się uchodźcami. Zostają osadzeni w prowizorycznej południowoafrykańskiej dzielnicy - "Dystrykcie 9", póki państwa świata nie zadecydują, co z nimi zrobić.
Teraz cierpliwość w związku z sytuacją obcych wyczerpała się. Kontrolę nad nimi zlecono Multi-National United (MNU), prywatnej spółce nie dbającej o ich dobro - otrzymają ogromne zyski za zmuszenie ich do stworzenia niesamowitej broni. Jak dotąd zawodzą. Uruchomienie broni wymaga DNA obcych.
Napięcie między cudzoziemcami a ludźmi osiąga punkt krytyczny. Wikus Van De Merwe (Sharlto Copley) znajduje tajemniczy wirus, który zaczyna zmieniać jego DNA. Wikus szybko zostaje najbardziej zaszczutym człowiekiem na świecie, jak również najcenniejszym - jest kluczem do odkrycia tajemnic obcej technologii. Zostaje porzucony przez przyjaciół. Jest tylko jedno miejsce, gdzie może się ukryć: "Dystrykt 9".
