Double Trouble

Wikipedia:
Double Trouble is an American blues rock band from Austin, Texas, formed by guitarist/singer Stevie Ray Vaughan in 1978. The group was active throughout the 1980s and responsible for reviving the blues, inspiring many later blues and rock musicians. Formed in Austin, Texas, by 1985 the group consisted of Vaughan, Chris Layton (drums), Tommy Shannon (bass), and Reese Wynans (keyboards), and while with Vaughan the band was billed Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble. Rooted in blues and rock music, the group worked in many genres ranging from ballads to soul, often incorporating jazz and other elements.
Initially a five-piece lineup with Vaughan, Lou Ann Barton (vocals), Fredde Walden (drums), Jackie Newhouse (bass) and Johnny Reno (saxophone), they built their reputation playing clubs around Texas over a four-year period. Molded into a trio, their musical potential was encouraged by producer John H. Hammond, who got the band a recording contract with Epic Records. They gained popularity after their debut album, Texas Flood, became a critical and commercial success in 1983. By the mid-1980s, they had become an international act, touring extensively around the world until August 1990, when Vaughan was killed in a helicopter crash after departing East Troy, Wisconsin.
Various posthumous releases featuring Vaughan have been issued since his death, overseen by his brother Jimmie Vaughan. Since Vaughan's death, Double Trouble has continued in various capacities, releasing a studio album in 2001 and acting as a session band for blues and local Austin musicians. The band has sold over 11.5 million albums in the United States, receiving platinum certifications for all four of their studio albums featuring Vaughan. They have won four Grammy Awards including Best Contemporary Blues Performance for their album In Step (1989).

AllMusic Review:
You have to give the late guitar legend Stevie Ray Vaughan's rhythm section credit for perseverance. Mitch Mitchell and Noel Redding, the rhythm section of the Jimi Hendrix Experience, never took it upon themselves to continue as a recording entity after their leader's passing. Of course, Double Trouble is buoyed on BEEN A LONG TIME by a host of famous friends who offer impassioned performances to occupy Vaughan's vacated frontman spot.
Bassist Tommy Shannon and drummer Chris Layton are as rock-solid here as they ever were backing up their erstwhile leader. They don't spend much time looking back, either. BEEN A LONG TIME isn't really a blues album--rather, it's a bluesy rock album with a decidedly contemporary edge that owes little to Vaughan's sound. Jonny Lang, Susan Tedeschi, Charlie Sexton, and many others lend their voices and guitars to BEEN A LONG TIME, but Double Trouble can take the credit for putting (and keeping) the whole thing together.

Amazon.com Review by Don McLeese:
Double Trouble without Stevie Ray Vaughan? Drummer Chris Layton and bassist Tommy Shannon get by with a little help from their friends, on an album of musical depth that will surprise skeptics and delight fans. Amid the varied shades of blue, highlights find the ace rhythm section reuniting with former Arc Angels bandmates Charlie Sexton and Doyle Bramhall II, Storyville singer Malford Milligan, and Stevie's brother, Jimmie Vaughan. There are passing-the-torch contributions from Jonny Lang, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, and Susan Tedeschi (the latter two on a thunderous revival of Led Zeppelin's "Rock and Roll"). But it's Bramhall's power-trio transformation of Muddy Waters's "She's Alright" that evokes the strongest memories of Stevie. The album ends in expansively sophisticated fashion, with Dr. John, guitarist Willie Nelson, and a string section on "Baby, There's No One Like You," one of the four songs cowritten by Layton and Shannon.
