Description

The twenty-fifth season of British science fiction television series Doctor Who began on 5 October 1988 with the serial 'Remembrance of the Daleks', and ended with 'The Greatest Show in the Galaxy' on 4 January 1989.

Sylvester McCoy continues to play the Doctor for his second season, accompanied by Sophie Aldred (Ace) who joined him in 'Dragonfire' in season 24.

Terry Molloy makes his final appearance as the Dalek creator (now acting as the Dalek Emperor) in 'Remembrance of the Daleks'.

Season 25 saw the start of a move to explore the Doctor's past; script editor Andrew Cartmel had felt that as more of the character's own history, together with the history of the Time Lords, had been revealed, some of the mystery about the Doctor had been lost. As a consequence he, together with writers Ben Aaronovitch and Marc Platt, began developing the seeds of a new backstory, which would be hinted at throughout the season, that suggested the Doctor to be more powerful than most people were aware of. This concept eventually came to be known as the 'Cartmel Masterplan'.

Total Episodes: 14

01 - Remembrance of the Daleks - 4 Episodes

Synopsis: London, 1963. The seventh Doctor returns - with his new companion
Ace - to tackle some unfinished business. Once again, unusual events are
unfolding at 'Coal Hill School' and 'Totter's Lane Junkyard'. The Doctor
discovers that his oldest foes, the Daleks, are on the trail of hidden Time
Lord technology - technology that he himself left behind on Earth all those
years ago. The Daleks are planning to perfect their own time-travel
capability in order to unleash themselves across all of time and space. Can
the Doctor, even with the help of the local military, stop the Daleks from
stealing Gallifreyan secrets? Or are things even more complicated? Two
opposing Dalek factions meet in an explosive confrontation with the fate of
the entire Universe at stake! Coal Hill School and Totter's Lane Junkyard
are references that should take you back to the 1963 Doctor Who Pilot, 'An
Unearthly Child'.

02 - The Happiness Patrol - 3 Episodes

Synopsis: The Doctor has heard stories of strange and sinister goings-on on
Earth colony Terra Alpha. Citizens have disappeared without trace, and
strange creatures lurk in the pipes and sewers under the capital city.
Believing it is high time someone got to the bottom of the mystery, the
Doctor declares to his young companion Ace that tonight will be the night. He
discovers that Terra Alpha is ruled by the tyrannical Helen A, a dictator who
requires her subjects to be happy... or die. Her roving death squads - the
Happiness Patrol - are empowered to kill on sight anyone displaying signs of
sadness, gloom or melancholy. However, it is not just the sadistic Happiness
Patrol that the Doctor and Ace must contend with. Before they can discover
the dark secret of Helen A's regime, they must face the fearsome blood-lust
of her savage pet, Fifi, and the lethal surprises cooked up by her chief
executioner - and confectioner supreme - the Kandy Man.

03 - Silver Nemesis - 3 Episodes

Synopsis: It is the 23rd November 1988. (exactly 25 years to the day when
Doctor Who was first televised). Lady Peinforte and her loyal servant Richard
have traveled from the year 1638 for this moment. Herr de Flores' dreams of
establishing the Fourth Reich rest on this point in time. The Cybermen's
planned invasion of Earth is scheduled for the same time. The link between
the three? The statue 'Nemesis', fashioned from validium - the living metal
first made by Rassilon on Gallifrey and capable of bestowing the power of
life and death on any individual. Can the Doctor and Ace prevent its awesome
power from falling into any of their evil hands?

04 - The Greatest Show in the Galaxy - 4 Episodes

Synopsis: The TARDIS takes the Doctor and Ace to the planet Segonax, the
latest home of the famous Psychic Circus. But Ace finds the clowns a bit
creepy and would much rather stay out in the sun, which may be just as well.
This is no ordinary circus and people come from planets far and wide to
audition for the opportunity to take part. But there's a darker side to the
show - who are the three members of the audience upon whose whims the
performers' lives depend? And why is the Chief Clown driving a hearse and
trying to capture the local youths? The Doctor decides to investigate further
and, while Ace tries to befriend some of the more terrified workers, he
realizes that the Psychic Circus is really a front for a far older, and
dealer, menace from his past. He and Ace must ward off killer bus conductors,
werewolves, the walking dead, and some murderous robot clowns before the can
hope to stop an evil from the vary dawn of history.
