Dire Straits – 1980 - Making Movies (2012 Japanese SHM-SACD) [FLAC@88.2khz24bit] Dire Straits Dire Straits in 1985 Wikipedia: Dire Straits were a British rock band formed in 1977 by Mark Knopfler (lead vocals and lead guitar), his younger brother David Knopfler (rhythm guitar and backing vocals), John Illsley (bass guitar and backing vocals), and Pick Withers (drums and percussion). Dire Straits' sound drew from a variety of musical influences, including jazz, folk, and blues, and came closest to beat music within the context of rock and roll. Despite the prominence of punk rock during the band's early years, their stripped-down sound contrasted with punk, demonstrating a more "rootsy" influence that emerged from pub rock. Many of Dire Straits' compositions were melancholic. Dire Straits' biggest selling album Brothers in Arms has sold over 30 million copies, and was the first album to sell a million copies on CD. They also became one of the world's most commercially successful bands, with worldwide records sales of over 100 million. Dire Straits won four Grammy Awards, three Brit Awards—winning Best British Group twice, two MTV Video Music Awards, and various other music awards. The band's songs include "Money for Nothing", "Sultans of Swing", "So Far Away", "Walk of Life", "Brothers in Arms", "Private Investigations", "Romeo and Juliet", "Tunnel of Love", and "Telegraph Road". According to the Guinness Book of British Hit Albums, Dire Straits have spent over 1,100 weeks on the UK albums chart, ranking fifth all-time. Their career spanned a combined total of 15 years. They originally split up in 1988, but reformed in 1991, and disbanded for good in 1995 when Mark Knopfler launched his solo career full-time. There were several changes in personnel over both periods, leaving Mark Knopfler and John Illsley as the only two original bandmates who remained throughout the band's career. Making Movies was later certified platinum in the United States and double-platinum in the United Kingdom. AllMusic Review by Stephen Thomas Erlewine: Without second guitarist David Knopfler, Dire Straits began to move away from its roots rock origins into a jazzier variation of country-rock and singer/songwriter folk-rock. Naturally, this means that Mark Knopfler’s ambitions as a songwriter are growing, as the storytelling pretensions of Making Movies indicate. Fortunately, his skills are increasing, as the lovely “Romeo and Juliet,” “Tunnel of Love,” and “Skateaway” indicate. And Making Movies is helped by a new wave-tinged pop production, which actually helps Knopfler’s jazzy inclinations take hold. The record runs out of steam toward the end, closing with the borderline offensive “Les Boys,” but the remainder of Making Movies ranks among the band’s finest work. 01 – Tunnel Of Love - 8:11 02 – Romeo And Juliet - 5:47 03 – Skateaway - 6:32 04 – Expresso Love - 5:17 05 – Hand in Hand - 4:50 06 – Solid Rock - 3:18 07 – Les Boys - 4:07 Personnel: Dire Straits: Mark Knopfler – vocals, guitar John Illsley – bass, vocals Pick Withers – drums, vocals Additional Musicians: Roy Bittan – keyboards Sid McGinnis – guitar (uncredited) Note: This is not my rip My thanks to the original uploader ♪♬♫ ENJOY! ♪♬♫ Sharing WidgetAll Comments |
