Description
Densha Otoko (電車男?, lit. Train Man) is a Japanese television drama that aired on Fuji Television. It is based on the Densha Otoko story, which has also been portrayed in other media.
The drama's 11 episodes were aired on Fuji TV from July 7 to September 22, 2005 (with a special episode on October 6, 2005).[1] A two hour long TV special, Densha Otoko Deluxe, aired on September 23, 2006, featured a visit to Tahiti.[1] Pony Canyon released the series on a DVD box set on December 22, 2005.[2] It also aired in Taiwan's Videoland Japan from January 24, 2006 (with a special episode on December 28, 2006),[3][4] and in Hong Kong's TVB Jade from April 15, 2006 (with a special episode on January 27, 2007).[5] Plot A socially-challenged otaku (Japanese slang for "geek") saves an attractive female from the unwanted advances of a lecherous salaryman while commuting on the local train route, only to become infatuated with the kind and thankful woman in a romantic comedy that takes its cue from a real-life romantic encounter. Densha Otoko may not have much experience with the ladies, but what he lacks in romantic know-how he more than makes up for in gentlemanly instinct. When Densha notices an unruly drunk making a female train passenger uncomfortable, his snap decision to come to her rescue finds the relieved woman requesting his address so that she may send him a gift for his thoughtful display of kindness. Densha isn't the smoothest operator in town though, and in order to make a good impression he soon begins seeking out the romantic advice of his equally inexperienced internet friends. Now, as Densha strives to improve his social skills in order to win the heart of the woman he has grown to love, his romantic journey will find him realizing that there is much more to life than the heady philosophy behind the Matrix Trilogy. What is 'Densha Otoko'? Densha Otoko, or 'Train Man' is the name of a very popular book published in Japan in early 2005, which tells the true story of a nerdy guy who falls in love with a girl who he saved from a drunk on a train. This entire story takes place on a Japanese bulletin board system called 2ch, or 'ni-channel', particularly in a thread called 'Men Being Shot from Behind', where single men get together and gripe about being single. In typical Japanese fashion, after the tremendous success of the book, both a movie version and a TV drama series were released. 'Densha Otoko' is really the "it" book of 2005 for Japan. It's a really great story and I hope that this translation helps you enjoy it, too. The Characters Train Man: The main character. A self-professed anime/game nerd who frequents Akihabara, the technology/anime/idol Mecca of the Tokyo area. Hermes: A young lady of proper upbringing, with whom Train Man falls in love. The 2-channelers: The anonymous residents of the 2ch BBS system. They are witness to Train Man's romantic coming-of-age, and also offer wisdom, advice and support. Nakano Hitori: AKA "Naka no Hito". The "author" of 'Densha Otoko'. "nakano hitori" means "one of them"; it's the penname of the anonymous 2-channeler who compiled all the original posts into a website, which started the 'Densha Otoko' phenomenon. Related Torrents
