Dhafer Youssef, composer, singer and oud player, is one of the most exciting voices to emerge on the European jazz and world music scene.



Originating from Tunisia, Dhafer brings with him the intense spirituality of the Sufi tradition. Since he left Tunisia he has become something of a modern nomad travelling throughout Europe. His travels as a musical immigrant have had a major influence on his work, leading to collaborations with musicians from Northern, Central and Southern Europe.



The melting pot of cultures brought together in this project, represents the exciting direction that music is taking thanks to Europe’s increasing ethnic diversity. Here he brings together the warmth and emotions of Sufi, the vast sound-scapes of Norway and the melodic traditions of the Mediterranean. Jazz improvisation, Arabic lyricism, dance grooves and electronics are fused together to create a dynamic East/ West crossover that is both rooted in tradition and a signpost to the future.



Dhafer’s performances are completely mesmerising. He has an extraordinary charisma on stage, which instantly bewitches the audience and draws them into the performance. After Dhafer’s London gig last year, Straight No Chaser summed up the electrifying performance as \"the kind of gig you watched and prayed would never end, charged with such magic that you knew you would be telling people about it in years to come.\"
