Colonel Victor Grace holds a house party one Christmas at his remote Lake District house. Assembled are an eclectic collection of guests and staff, with various skills, both legitimate and legitimate, connected to crime and breaking into property.

He bets his guests £1,000 that they cannot break in to his study, undetected. To make matters more difficult, the study is guarded by an alarm, and the door by a guillotine.

Next morning, the study appears undisturbed, yet the Colonel is found dead with a knife in his back.......

An unusual take on the classic locked room mystery, and one of my favourites from my Saturday Night Theatre collection.
