Sandra Layne, 75, is a retired teacher in Detroit, Michigan, raising her troubled, drug-addicted grandson, Jonathan Hoffman, and attempts to control his every move, but is ill-equipped to deal with his rebellious behavior. After Jonathan fails a drug test and announces he's running away, Sandra shoots him to death, with the act caught on Jonathan's 911 call. She is given a minimum 22-year sentence. Romance blossoms in an Atlanta senior-living community between Lena Driskell, 78, and Herman Winslow, 85. Herman soon has enough of Lena's jealousy and temper and finds a new girlfriend, and Lena responds by shooting him in the head four times. Unrepentant, Lena is sentenced to ten years in prison and released in 2011. Rowena Ledbetter has been married seven times by age 70, when she meets Herman Wilson, whom she convinces to make her the beneficiary of his will - without disclosing that she is still married. In April 2002, she poisons Herman's breakfast with pesticide. Herman's dying words implicate Rowena and she is given a life sentence, but chokes to death in prison after serving only nine months.
