This programme explores the origin of the Gallipoli legend from the point of view of war correspondents Charles Bean, Ellis Ashmead-Bartlett, Phillip Schuler and Keith Murdoch, who lived through the campaign and bore witness to the extraordinary events that unfolded on the shores of Gallipoli in 1915. Following each of the journalists as they travel through months of battle, we see the men they meet, the friendships they make, the woman one falls in love with and the lessons they learn about themselves and what it means to be a witness to such brutality.
