The game is a spin-off of Dead or Alive Xtreme 2 for the Xbox 360. Like Dead or Alive Xtreme 2, the game is heavily weighted toward depicting women in bikinis both on and off the beach. The title expands upon the activities available in the original which consisted of mainly beach-related mini-games. The game will be released in all regions during March and April, 2010. This is the first title in the Dead or Alive series for the PlayStation Portable.
