A great book for Chicago fans!

I love Helpingstine's new book! It shows the differences between two sets of ardent fans whose favorite teams play in ball parks only eight miles apart--but also demonstrates what these fans have in common. Readers can see how each fan base holds onto its own traditions and long for a time when pre-ESPN Major League Baseball didn't pander to the corporate fan. The photos are great, too! One shows Cub fans tying string through game programs and dangling them down the left field wall for players to sign. Another shows the old White Sox scoreboard after it went off after a home run. Smoke can be seen hanging over the scoreboard's ten towers.

Virtually every White Sox fan will Point out the media bias towards
the Cubs in Chicago. My best example of the media bias occured in the 2004 baseball season. The Cubs and there fans told everybody that the team was going to go to the World Series that season. It turned out they didn't even make the playoffs. The Cubs players then blamed there TV announcers, Chip Caray and Steve Stone for there lack of success. The Cubs management went along with there crybaby act and neither Chip Caray or Steve Stone ever worked for the Cubs again. It had to be one of the great crybaby acts in Chicago sports. The Chicago media was completely silent about their crybaby act. Even Jay Mariotti, the most negative sportswriter in the history of Chicago Sports journalism gave the Cubs a pass. If the White Sox had blamed there lack of success on there TV announcers, the Chicago Media would of dumped all over them.
