Cyclick Samples - Stacked Beats n Hits [WAV | NKI]_Sin (Size: 64.3 MB)
Description
This sample collection gets the stacking going for you with a set of multi-layered
kick and snare (266) hits that are also collated into Kontakt instruments (see below) and a set of beats loops (96) made from those hits, themselves given another dose of layering and processing. There are two flavours of hit/loop: acoustic and electronic. The former are derived from samples of real drums I have recorded for sample sessions over the years, whilst the electronic ones are from drum machines, synths and other non-acoustic sources. The hits were created by loading up a whole load of kicks and snares from the Cyclick Samples archive hard drive into Kontakt. The patch was then duplicated to create four separate instances, each output to its own channel in Nuendo. The patches were often pitched up or down from each other, and each output channel was given a distinct character, from sharp transient shaped percussive attacks to flabby, bass enhanced wobble. These four layers were then mixed through a few parallel channels that were used to set attack, body and weight for the drum tone. These were then mixed through a final stereo channel that featured a slight EQ tilt/shaping (UAD Tonelux Tilt and Neve 1081 plugins), parallel compression (PSP Buss Compressor and UAD Fairchild 660) and final limiter/squisher (Sonnox Oxford Inflator). No layer featured the same sample, so each final hit is formed from four different drum samples. The resulting stripes of hits were then edited to remove any weaklings. The beat loops were made from the edited hits loaded into Kontakt kits (which are included in the Hits folder) and sent through three parallel channels: one dry, one with accentuated transients, one with bass and MF body enhancement via distortion. These channels were then mixed through a similar buss to the hits, though this time the iZotope Final Mix plugin was used to compress/control a couple of key frequency areas to maximise loudness whilst keeping harshness at bay. The resulting beats are split into full mixes, just kicks, acoustic root samples only and electronic derived samples only. The Kontakt instruments (created in version 5) feature a ladder LPF assigned to CC74 and an 4-pole HPF assigned to CC01 (Mod Wheel). Sharing Widget |
