Description

The focus of this sample collection is Digital Lo-Fi processes. This means low bit depths, low
sample rates, SID chip/Commodore 64 style synthesis and other digital distortions. The collection
includes 13 drum kits (hits and CMPlay patches), 40 instruments , 12 tempo based loop kits and 6 miscellaneous sound/FX folders.

Three processes were used to build these samples up. Firstly there are instruments, loops, kits
and miscellaneous sounds made purely from SID chip emulators and low bit depth/sample rate
synthesisers which have had no other form of processing applied – they ‘as is’. The second
process takes the same type of sources and utilises more ‘Hi-Fi’ processes and treatments, such
as EQ, compression, reverb, delays and modulation – a kind of ‘tarting up’ and polishing approach.
The third process uses high quality sources, such as real drums, electric guitars, electric pianos
and bass guitars, and renders them ‘Lo-Fi’ through bit crushing, sample rate reduction algorithms
and other forms of digital distortion.
