Cyclick Samples - French House Chillout [WAV | NKI] -Sin

This collection takes the blown-out, compressed and sucked-about sounds of French House and
chills them out. There are four drum kits (loops and hits), three basses (lines and multisamples),
three arpeggiators (loops) and three pads (loops and multisamples). The loop/line tempos include
the standard 120bpm and 128bpm as well as a faster 140bpm which is actually aimed at a half time
(i.e. 70bpm) for a laid back feel (the 120/128bpm beats are a mix of four-to-the-floor and half-times).
The drums and bass have a more 80s feel (gated reverb Toms!) as that seems to be a regular feature
of the current crop of chilled French House tracks.

The drums were made with layered samples in Kontakt with each drum (kick, snare, etc.) having its own
DAW channel for heavy processing: compression, EQ, filtering, reverb and bass enhancement for kicks and
toms). These were then mixed through a group and parallel reverb/FX channel with plenty of
compression/limiting and saturation. A tempo based volume envelope shaper was often used to give an
extra 'pump' to the beats as well as the pads. The main side-chained compression effect was achieved by
using a kick drum fed into a plugin compressor in the DAW (mostly I used the beat loops on the page with a
sharp low pass filter to focus the sidechain on the kick). The TAL Filter 2 plugin is a great tool for
accentuating (or creating a faux version of) a side-chained compression effect, and using a soft high-pass
filter instead of amplitude modulation also helps shape a sucking pad.

The Kontakt instruments are compatible with version 4 and above and they all have a Low Pass filter
assigned to CC#74 and a High Pass filter assigned to the Mod. Wheel. The pads and basses have a ramp-
up sawtooth wave LFO assigned to modulate the amplitude when Aftertouch is used so a faux sidechained
compression effect can be created. The bass and pad multisamples have their sustain loops points
embedded in the .wav files for easy setting up of instruments in other sampler packages.
